Dr. Nguyen Huu Vu

Founder and CEO of HANVET — one of Vietnam’s leading science and technology enterprises in veterinary pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and biological products.

Early Life & Education

Dr. Nguyen Huu Vu was born on May 14, 1946 in Ngoc Kieu village, Tan Lap commune, Dan Phuong district, Hanoi city, Vietnam.

He was born into a family with a strong tradition of education and academic excellence. He is the third child in a family of seven siblings. From a very young age, he demonstrated exceptional academic performance, discipline, and a deep passion for scientific learning.

During his childhood and student years, Vietnam was still experiencing war and severe economic hardship. Educational resources and living conditions were extremely limited. Despite these challenges, he remained committed to studying and developing knowledge with the aspiration of contributing to the country.

He attended Luong Ngoc Quyen School in Thai Nguyen Province, Viet Bac Autonomous Region. In 1964, he successfully entered the University of Agriculture and Forestry, now known as Vietnam National University of Agriculture.

In 1969, he graduated in Veterinary Medicine and officially began his professional career at Dong Giao State Farm in Ninh Binh Province.

In 1984, he additionally graduated from the Faculty of English at the University of Languages and International Studies through a part-time program at Hanoi National University of Education.

Professional Journey

1969 – 1979

Worked at Dong Giao State Farm as Head of the Livestock Department, managing all technical livestock activities. Under his management, livestock and poultry operations became increasingly professional and efficient.

1979 – 1985

Served as Head of the Animal Husbandry Department at the Fruit and Vegetable Company under the Ministry of Agriculture.

1985 – 1988

Worked at the Level I Veterinary Animal Husbandry Supplies Company as Head of Planning Department.

1988 – Present

Founded Pharmaceutical and Veterinary Material Joint Stock Company (HANVET) and has continuously served as Founder and CEO.

1997

Successfully defended his doctoral thesis after decades of scientific research and innovation.

The reputation of Dr. Nguyen Huu Vu is closely connected with the establishment and development of HANVET Company.

Under his leadership, HANVET has become one of Vietnam and Southeast Asia’s leading science and technology enterprises specializing in:

Over more than 36 years, HANVET has researched and commercialized:

These products have delivered significant practical value for livestock farmers, veterinarians, and the animal health industry in Vietnam and international markets.

Research & Scientific Contributions

Although leading a large enterprise, Dr. Nguyen Huu Vu has continuously maintained strong involvement in scientific research activities.

As Chairman of HANVET’s Scientific Council, he has directed numerous research projects in veterinary medicine, vaccines, biotechnology, antibodies, probiotics, and disease prevention technologies.

Veterinary Pharmaceutical Research

In 1970, he chaired the ministerial-level research project “Coccidiosis in Calves” and became the first person in Vietnam to discover and research the “Pathogenicity of Eimeria in Calves”.

From the 1990s onward, he and his research colleagues developed hundreds of high-tech pharmaceutical products serving practical livestock farming applications.

Vaccines & Biological Products

Since 2000, he established HANVET Biological Research Center, gathering leading scientists and experts to research vaccines, antibodies, and probiotics.

Nearly 40 animal vaccines commercialized
More than 30 antibody and probiotic products
Over 20 probiotic technologies developed

HANVET successfully mastered fermentation technologies and production technologies for Lactobacillus, Enterococcus, Bacillus, Saccharomyces, and other beneficial microorganisms.

Major Research Achievements

HANVET-K.T.G

In 1997, HANVET successfully researched and produced antibodies for prevention and treatment support of Gumboro disease in chickens — the first successful development of its kind in Vietnam.

The product later evolved into a multivalent antibody preparation providing immunity support against:

Gumboro disease
Newcastle disease
IB disease
CRD disease

HANVET-K.T.G won the First Prize of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (VIFOTEC).

HANVET-K.T.V

Developed during 2000–2001 for prevention and treatment support of hepatitis in ducks, geese, and swans.

HANVET-K.T.E

State-level project researching antibodies against diarrhea and edema disease caused by E. coli in pigs.

The project later won Third Prize at VIFOTEC.

HANVET-TOBACOLI Vaccine

Vaccine developed from toxic E. coli strains isolated across Vietnam for prevention of diarrhea and edema disease in pigs.

Tens of millions of doses have been used annually by pig farms.

Cell-Culture Swine Fever Vaccine

Successfully adapted attenuated swine fever virus strain C on PK15 cells, producing a freeze-dried vaccine with:

High purity
High antigen content
Improved immune response
Lower production costs

PRRS Vaccine

One of the first PRRS vaccines researched and produced in Vietnam. Tens of millions of doses have been distributed domestically and internationally.

Tilapia Streptococcosis Vaccine

Successfully developed vaccine against Streptococcus disease in tilapia, supporting aquaculture disease prevention in Vietnam.

Rabiva Vaccine

Vietnam’s first rabies vaccine for dogs and cats produced using cell-culture technology.

The vaccine was collaboratively researched with Vabiotech under the Ministry of Health from 2015–2020 and officially licensed in 2022.

GMP-WHO Vaccine Technology Innovation Project

Directed a state-level project modernizing veterinary virus vaccine production technologies using:

Micro-carrier cell culture technology
Embryonated egg technology

The project helped HANVET master advanced international vaccine manufacturing technologies.

PED Vaccine Project

Conducted research and production process development for vaccines against PED virus causing acute diarrhea in pigs.
